Sweet Daffodils

Hello Everyone!!!  Today's card is one I made a little while ago but hadn't had the chance to post.  Finally after 2wks of no internet connection because of the Brisbane floods - our cable has been restored!!!  It's amazing how much you miss it when you don't have it!!!  My boys are back at school after the Summer break and I'm hoping life will start getting into some sort of routine again!!

I started with a yellow base and layered with green bazzill and white (punched with the Fiskars Lace Border Punch) and topped with some Basic Grey DP that I found in my stash.  The Daffodils are from Flourishes' Year of Flowers 1 set and has been stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black onto X-press It Blending Card and coloured with Copics (Y21, Y35, Y38, YG11, YG13, YG17, BG0000).  I've cut it out with Large Oval Nestabilities and matted with yellow bazzill cut with Beaded Oval Nestabilities.  All die cutting has been done with my Raspberry Friend (aka the Grand Calibur!).  :)  To finish I added the sentiment from SU's Short and Sweet set and a couple of Kaisercraft Snow Pearls in the corners.

Stamps - Year of Flowers 1 (Flourishes), Short and Sweet (SU)
Paper - X-press It Blending Card, Yellow, Green and White Bazzill, Basic Grey DP
Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black
Accessories - Copics, Large Oval and Beaded Oval Nestabilities, Grand Calibur, Fiskars Lace Border Punch, Kaisercraft Snow Pearls, Foam Tape.

Fairy Birthday

Hello Everyone!  Today is the Inspiration Challenge at SCS and we had a Barbie theme!!  There are so many Barbies to choose from, in the end I chose Elina Barbie - a fairy Barbie Doll and thought this darling fairy by JustRite would be perfect!  :)

The base is pink bazzill and layered with white and some MME paper.  I did a bit of wavy sewing around the edges.  On top of that I used the reverse side of the paper to add another panel and added a strip of pink bazzill across it that I punched with the MS Floral Edge Punch and then added some white satin ribbon over the top.  I stamped the fairy from Garden Fairy Seeds in Memento Tuxedo Black onto X-press It Blending Card and coloured her with Copics (E000, E01, R20, G21, G24, G12, Y21, Y35, R81, R83, R85, R89, E31, E33, E35).  I cut her out with Large Circle Nestabilities and matted with pink cut with Eyelet Circle Nestabilities.  Next I stamped part of the sentiment from Garden Fairy Wishes and cut it out using Nested Sentiment Dies – made by Spellbinders and exclusive to JustRite Stampers – and added it to the bottom of the circle.  To finish I added some clear rhinestones to the corners, a bow to the ribbon and some Polar White Flower Soft to the dandelion to add a little texture!

Stamps – Garden Fairy Seeds, Garden Fairy Wishes (JustRite)
Paper – X-press It Blending Card, Pink and White Bazzill, MME Quite Contrary DP
Ink – Memento Tuxedo Black
Accessories – Copics, Large Circle and Eyelet Circle Nestabilities, Nested Sentiment Dies, White Satin Ribbon, Bow Easy, Polar White Flower Soft, Clear Rhinestones, Sewing Machine.

That’s all for today, thanks for visiting!

Best Friends

Hello Everyone!  Today I’ve been playing with some new sets by JustRite Stampers called Friendship Blooms and created a card for today's Featured Stamper Challenge!!!  I've chosen Tracy's Celebrate card, made it more purple than white, altered the layout, added a few layers and changed the frame image.

If you have been following the Spellbinders Blog Frenzy, you may recognise the shapes of the brand new dies that a being released for the Winter CHA!  The sentiment panel is designed to match the new Labels 18 set and the flower is designed to match the Blooms 3 set!

The base is Rich Razzleberry and layered with white and some Cottage Wall DSP that I’ve used my sewing machine to sew around the edges.  The middle panel is made of Orchid Opulence and layered with more Cottage Wall DSP and then I’ve added an embossed strip of white down one side.  Across the bottom I’ve added two pieces of white satin ribbon and knotted the lower one.  I’ve stamped the frame from Friendship Blooms in Rich Razzleberry and cut it by hand (because I don’t have the new Labels 18 set) and then stamped the sentiment from the same set in Memento Tuxedo Black and cut it out with Large Circle Nestabilities and popped it up on foam tape.  I’ve made the flower by stamping the large Blooms 3 shape from the set twice in Rich Razzleberry.  Then I scored them using my Scor-Pal and snipped one part from edge to centre on each and valley folded them and joined them together.  The centre accent is from another of the new JustRite sets called Fancy Labels.  To finish I added some die cut leaves underneath and a tiny white pearl to the centre of the flower.

Stamps – Friendship Blooms, Fancy Labels (JustRite)
Paper – Rich Razzleberry, White, Orchid Opulence, Cottage Wall DSP
Ink – Memento Tuxedo Black, Rich Razzleberry
Accessories – Large Circle Nestabilities, Scor-Pal, Swiss Dots EF, White Satin Ribbon, Little Leaves Sizzlets, Scissors, Foam Tape, Kaisercraft Snow Pearl.

That’s all from me today, thanks for visiting!

Queensland Floods

Hello Everyone!  I have been so touched by all the emails and messages from people checking on us as the floodwaters raged through our town.  On Tuesday, heavy rain lashed our region which resulted in creeks bursting their banks in Toowoomba and rushing through the Lockyer Valley.  From our area alone the death toll stands at 16 and there are still 56 people missing.  This does not include those that have been killed since Christmas in Central and Western Queensland.

On Wednesday the Brisbane River starting rising and inundating thousands of homes.  I live in the Western Suburbs in an area known as the Centenary Suburbs.  We are bounded by the Centenary Highway on one side, the Ipswich Motorway on another and the river on the other.  Those homes down near the river have all gone under.  Water has also come up through the creeks, inundating areas well away from the river.  We live high on a hill and we and our home are fine, but we know many who are not.

We lost power on Wednesday morning, and our home phone, so we took the only road out to head to friends who were unaffected (and taking the contents of the fridge/freezer since we couldn't buy any ice!).  We are so thankful to them for helping us! On Thursday we had a bit of a look around since nothing about our area was on the radio.  Here are some photos from our area....

I'm standing on an off ramp to the Centenary Highway, looking back towards the Centenary Bridge.  Just above the green signs you can see a small hump - that is the bridge.  By this stage, the water had gone down - it had been completely under.  Behind that you can see the road going up on the other side of the river to Kenmore.  The river went right down the highway for as far as we could see until the bend in the road.  This is our way into the city.  All this water is now gone.

This shipping container was found on the road opposite the park where my boys play cricket - a couple of blocks from our house.  It must have floated through the park which backs onto the golf course - which has a creek that meets up with the river.

Friends of ours were ONE HOUSE away from going under!  We walked around there on Thursday to see if they were OK.  This photo is taken from the house across the street - it overlooks the golf course I mentioned above.  All you can see is water and if you see the mark on the fence to the right, you can see how high the water actually got - half this house went under.

This is just a small, small part of Brisbane, so you can imagine what it's like all over the city.  As I write this, we have power but no phone or internet.  I have no idea when our internet will be back, so my posting may be a little sporadic.

I was VERY relieved to see that the major Queensland Highway was finally reopened through other flooded districts yesterday.  I have family in Maryborough and near Gladstone and both of these towns have been cut of north and south for about a week with their Supermarkets completely bare, things were starting to get a little stressful up there.  Remember, it is not just Brisbane, Ipswich, Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley that are affected, we are the latest ones, but so many towns have been affected over the last few weeks.

Thank you to everyone for checking on us - we are fine and so, so lucky compared to many.  If you want to help, please donate to the Premier's Appeal at www.qld.gov.au/floods or if you are overseas, consider donating to whatever appeals are going on in your country.

Birthday Daffodils

Hello Everyone!!!  It's Featured Stamper Challenge time again and this week the honour goes to UKGEM!  I chose her Spring Colours card to case and altered the layout a little because it was a sketch challenge, keeping the yellow and green flowers, different image and added a sentiment.

This card also fits for the CopicOz Challenge to create a Summertime themed card with a twist to use Yellow and Green Copics!!!  :)  There's an awesome prize of 12 Copic Ciao Markers to be won, so come and play with us, you have until January 24th!!!  You can find all the details HERE!!

I started with an aqua base and layered with white, green and two pieces of Thrift Shop DP.  Over the join I added some yellow satin ribbon.  The Daffodils are from JustRite's brand new set called The Greatest Joy (which also has some roses and crocuses!) and I've stamped it in Memento Tuxedo Black onto X-press It Blending Card and coloured with Copics (Y21, Y35, Y38, YG11, YG13, YG17) and then cut it out with scissors and a scalpel.  I then stamped the border also from The Greatest Joy, in Memento Bamboo Leaves and cut it out with Large Oval Nestabilities and popped the Daffodils up on foam tape.  I framed this with yellow cut with Large Scallop Oval Nestabilites and then a frame of aqua cut with Label 8 Nestabilities.  I did all the cutting with my Grand Calibur.....and guess what.....you can cut them ALL AT ONCE!!!!  COOL!!!!  What a time saver!!!  :)  Then sentiment is from JustRite's new Happy Everything Mini Tag Kit - comes with 18 SENTIMENTS, a MINI BORDER, 4 TAG DIES and a clear STAMPER!!!!  I used the Birthday sentiment and the two smallest of the tag dies to cut and frame it!  Finished off by adding a yellow satin bow and a couple of small yellow pearls to the top corner.

Stamps - The Greatest Joy, Happy Everything Mini Tag Kit (JustRite)
Paper - X-press It Blending Card, Aqua, White, Green and Yellow Bazzill, October Afternoon Thrift Shop DP
Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black, Memento Bamboo Leaves
Accessories - Copics,Happy Everything Tag Set, Label 8, Large Oval and Large Scallop Oval Nestabilities, Grand Calibur, Yellow Satin Ribbon, Bow Easy, Yellow Pearls, Foam Tape

Before I go, I've had a lot of emails, comments and messages at SCS and Facebook asking if we are being affected by the Queensland Floods.  Although we have had a lot of rain, we live south and east of the massive flooding that you have been seeing in the news.  As I write this, my parent's town of Maryborough is experiencing flooding and roads in all directions have been cut off.  Their home is up on a hill and well away from the river and they are in no danger of flooding and taking it all in their stride.  Thank you so much for all your thoughts and prayers - it's so nice knowing that so many of you care - from all over the world!

That's all from me today, thanks for visiting!!!!  :)

You Make Me Happy

Hello Everyone!!  Today I played along with the Wednesday Sketch Challenge hosted by My Favorite Things.  After I discovered one of my favourite weekly sketch challenges was not continuing this year, I was thrilled to find a new one!!  :)  Although I've been looking at the MFT stamps for some time, it was only recently that I've acquired some of my very own - this adorable Pure Innocence girl comes care of my dear, sweet friend Lori!!  Then just yesterday this fabbo pennant die-namics came to live at my place!!  (Yes, I know the sketch calls for a double scalloped edge - but I wanted to use my new die!)

I started with a base of aqua bazzill and layered with Very Vanilla and some MME paper from my stash.  The five little panels at the bottom are more MME paper and matted with more aqua.  Over this I attached some pink dotty ribbon.  The sentiment is from Being Cute Is What I Do by MFT, stamped on VV and die cut using the Nested Frame Dies by JustRite.  The pennant is made from aqua and vanilla card and I've stamped 'happy' from the sentiment on each one along with the flower from the girl's shirt and 'strung it up' on more pink ribbon.  The image is also from Being Cute Is What I Do and has been stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black onto X-press It Blending Card and coloured with Copics (E33, E35, E37, E97, E50, E53, E000, E01, R20, R83, R85, BG11, BG13, BG72, B91, B93, B95, B97).  She's been cut out and popped up on foam tape on a layer of embossed vanilla matted with more pink.

JRC_046 Beautiful Hibiscus

Hello Everyone!!!  It's the first Friday of the new year and that means it's time for a new JustRite Stamper's Challenge!!!!  YAY!!!  This year the challenges will be every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month and this week, our challenge to you is to use SCORING on your project and it's sponsored by SCOR-PAL!!!  There are fabulous prizes to win and if you upload to SCS please use the keyword JRC_046!  It's been quite a while since I put scoring on my cards, even though I use my Scor-pal ALL the time for 3D projects, so I decided to add a little lattice scoring to the background of my card!  The layout is this week's SCS Sketch Challenge.  :)

I started with a base of white and layered with Kiwi Kiss, Pumpkin Pie and then the white that I scored in a lattice pattern using my Scor-Pal.  I cut some Haiku DSP using Label 14 Nestabilities (I found this lurking in my stash and thought it would be perfect for my tropical hibiscus!) and then added some white and orange grosgrain ribbons over the top.  The sentiment is from the brand new JustRite stamp set called Beautiful Day and I've stamped it in Memento Tuxedo Black onto white card and cut it out with the Nested Frames Die set, exclusive custom dies from JustRite (and made by Spellbinders!).  I stamped the Hibiscus from the new Mother Nature's Gifts set in Memento Tuxedo Black onto X-press It Blending Card coloured it with Copics (YR12, YR16, R83, R85, R89, Y08) and cut it out with scissors and popped it up on foam tape.  I've cut the leaves using Daisy Heads Shapeabilities and finished by adding some clear rhinestones that I coloured with a YR18 Copic Marker.

Hello Everyone!!!!  Happy New Year and welcome to the first Bring Back Beautiful Challenge of 2011!!!  Take a trip back in time with this BBB challenge and show us some vintage beauty on your card or creation. Use a little lace, a vintage looking button or some decorative paper with an old time feel. Link up your Bringing Back Beautiful Challenge card HERE to enter. As we unveil our challenge for next month, we'll share our True Beauties, those card makers who wowed us with this challenge! Winners will be featured on the Flourishes Blog and will receive a True Beauty blog button to display proudly on their blog!

Today I was inspired by this beautiful hat image from Flourishes' Friendly Reminders stamp set!  Doesn't it give you a feeling of Yesteryear?  Maybe I was having an Anne of Green Gables flashback! :)

I decided to use a base of Very Vanilla (I really like vanilla for vintage giving that soft and aged feel) and layered with some pink bazzill I found in my stash.  I punched the pink with the Martha Stewart Deco Fan border punch and then layered with some Kasiercraft English Rose DP.  I punched the paper with the SU scallop punch and then sewed some wavy lines around the edges.  Across the bottom I added some more vanilla that I paper pleated and topped with some of this divine pink ribbon that my sweet friend Angie sent me!  I stamped and coloured the hat image twice, one I cut out with Large Circle Nestabilities and my Grand Calibur, the other I cut out only the hat with a pair of scissors and popped it on foam tape.

I stamped on X-press It Blending Card and coloured the image with Copics - E31, E33, E35, R81, R83, R85, G20, G21.  I used E51 to airbrush the white card and white paper doily to give it a more vintage feel.  I then framed my image with more pink cut with Lacey Circle Nestabilities, attached it to the doily and popped it up on foam tape.  Next I stamped the sentiment, also from Friendly Reminders, framed it with more pink (using Small Circle Nestabilities) and popped it up on foam tape.  Finally I added a few Kaisercraft Blush Pearls to the top corners!

Wait until you see what beautiful projects the Beauty Girls have for you today!!!!

Stamps - Friendly Reminders (Flourishes)
Paper - X-press It Blending Card, Very Vanilla, Pink Bazzill, Kaisercraft English Rose DP
