Rustic Ship

Hello Everyone and welcome to the Bring Back Beautiful challenge for September!!!  As the leaves start to change colors to usher in fall in the Northern Hemisphere, we want to see your rustic beauty. Interpret this challenge however you like – want to use a little distressing? Want to use shades of rust? Want to use things that look aged or antiqued? You choose! Just make sure the end result has a rustic feel to it! Link up your Bring Back Beautiful Challenge card HERE. If you upload to SCS, please use the keyword BBB02. You have until September 30th to enter! As we unveil our challenge for next month, we’ll share our True Beauties – those card makers who wowed us with this challenge! Winners will be featured on the Flourishes Blog and will receive a True Beauty blog button to display proudly on their blog!

My first instinct when I heard 'rustic', was masculine - which was perfect considering that here in Australia we celebrate Father's Day on the first Sunday in September!  I made this especially for my hubby using last week's Mojo Sketch.  :)  Now I will admit that the idea of distressing makes me break out in a sweat, but I think this turned out OK!!  :)  I started with a base of brown bazzill and layered with Very Vanilla and topped with some Le Chateau DP that was originally a pale cream, but I've grunged it up with some Antique Linen sponging, scrunched the paper up and flattened it out and then roughed the edges with a pair of scissors.  I stamped the sentiment from A Guiding Light in Memento Rich Cocoa in the corner and then paper pierced around the edge.  For the next panel I made my own DP by stamping the Sailor's Knot image from A Guiding Light several times on X-press It Blending Card and coloured it with Copics (E31, E33, E35), sponged with more Antique Linen and cut it with Large Square Nestabilities, matting with the matching scallop.  Across the bottom I've added some darker brown and added several pieces of twine.  The ship is also part of the A Guiding Light stamp set and I've stamped it in Memento Rich Cocoa on X-press It Blending Card and coloured with Copics (E31, E33, E35, E37, B91, B93, B95, BG0000, W1, W3).  It's been cut out with Large Circle Nestabilities and matted with Large Pinking Circles and popped up on foam tape.
On the inside I've added more Vanilla and made a panel of brown punched with a scallop punch and topped with more Le Chateau paper (with more sponging) and adhered on three sides with X-press It High Tack Tape, leaving the top open so I could pop in a gift card to hubby's favourite store!  :)

Stamps - A Guiding Light
Paper - X-press It Blending Card,  Very Vanilla, Brown Bazzill, Kaisercraft Le Chateau DSP
Ink - Memento Rich Cocoa
Accessories -  Large Square, Large Scallop Square, Large Circle, Large Pinking Circle Nestabilities, Twine, Paper Piercer, Mat Pack, Scallop Border Punch, Foam Tape.

Love the sailor knot DP you used with the ship! Fabulous masculine card and I'm sure your hubby will love it (and the Gift Card LOL!). You've done well with the distressing too (I can empathize with breaking out in a sweat over it).

Only three more sleeps until I get six glorious, uninterrupted hours all to myself...oh sigh...LOL!

Got to read lots of Jamie and Claire while on vacation last week and about half way through book Fiery Cross. Not sure when I'll get to the Outback series, but I'll let you know when I get there.

Nice use of the stamps to build the BG, the knots are great with the ship, which I like in the pinked nestie, good balance to this card, and great use of theme!
